Based on the story of Mercy Brown, I created a narrative about the rebirth of a vampire in colonial America.
Mercy was not the first of her family to die of tuberculosis. Deemed to be a vampire by her community, Mercy's final rest was desecrated in order for her heart and liver to be removed, with the belief that the consumption of her organs by her surviving family members will save them from her fate.
Using her story, I created Lillian. Exploring the concepts of alienation, humanity, and belonging, I rendered a diptych in order to depict her transformation.
